When I was in college, I had a friend named Whitney. Whitney was really active on campus, had great grades, led greek life (I may or may not have been in a sorority many moons ago), and was just generally well liked. On the flip side, I was not too shabby in any of those departments myself and have even been known to crack a joke or two in my day.. But Whitney. She thought I was funnier than Adam Sandler (or John Mulaney, or Chris Rock… ). She laughed her butt off over nearly every word that came out of my mouth. At first, I felt a certain amount of pressure to perform (not that I’ve ever been one to shy away from attention) because she would adamantly proclaim to every room that I entered that I was the funniest person she had ever met. Now, to be fair, not every person in every room that she declared that to agreed, I’m sure, but Whitney would never have noticed that because she was too busy slapping her knees. Even when I said something that I thought for sure only I could think was funny, she’d get it. And you know what, I really WAS funnier when I was around her! I was always on a roll!

Why?

Because we were such a good personality fit and had such a similar sense of humor (not to mention the constant affirmation giving me boosted confidence), that I was operating at a higher level that I was able to before.

The same is true within an organization! As entrepreneurs, we’re naturally inclined to protect our business because it’s ours.. It’s our baby! And you know how the saying goes, if you want something done right…. That’s right, DO IT YOURSELF! Next thing you know, you’re doing everything yourself, staying up late, and burning the candle at both ends only leaving yourself NO time and NO energy to scale your business and take it to the next level.

The thing about hiring a team that is aligned with you, your business, your vision.. Truly aligned and on the same page…

You are able to operate on a higher level.

Why?
